A little about Dudley Castle and Zoo
Completed in 1070, Dudley Castle is steeped in history including a visit from Queen Elizabeth I in 1575, then Queen Elizabeth II in 1994. In 1750 a fire swept through the castle gutting the once-magnificent palace. Dudley Castle was allowed to settle into the role of romantic ruin until May 1937 when the Earl of Dudley opened the zoo that now houses over a thousand animals including tigers, lemurs, lions, giraffes, sea lions and birds of prey.
It is home to a large collection of exotic and endangered species and the world's largest single collection of Tecton buildings. It is an important geological site and home to the UK’s only vintage chairlift.
